I like to use old photographs as a starting point to re-create memories from before I was born. They are my mother’s family snapshots which serve to revisit poignant memories.
I use lines to suggest forms and patterns. My drawings are spontaneous and stylised, and not intended to be accurate representations but to be interpretations of childhood thoughts and ideas; free, relaxed and uninhibited by adult cynicism, and serve to remove the restrictions of the original photograph. Some are worked to provide a sense of narrative; others to create intimate portraits.
